Ask Amy: A mom worries about sweating it out
Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 05:58:35 GMT
Dear Amy: My husband and I have been talking about spending more time outside, whether it be working, camping, or just sitting outside.I LOVE working outside and I LOVE working with my husband. We work so well together that when we get on the same page, we can get a lot accomplished. My problem is that I’ve been so busy raising the kids (I’m a SAHM) that my work ethic isn’t there and I can’t work outside for more than five minutes without sweating my head off!I feel like I’ve been so spoiled by turning the air conditioner on as much as I have been, but when there’s no breeze and it’s 80°F, I have to turn it on, otherwise it gets so hot in our kids’ room that they struggle to sleep.I do open windows and we leave ceiling fans on all the time (hot or cold). Is there anything else I can do to keep it comfortable without turning on the air?I feel so lazy (or too spoiled) because I can’t stand working outside anymore. My past jobs were housekee...Commission approves €70 million Slovak scheme to support cattle, food and beverage producers in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine

The European Commission has approved a €70 million Slovak scheme to support cattle, food and beverage producers in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine. The scheme was approved under the State Aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework, adopted by the Commission on 9 March 2023 to support measures in sectors which are key to accelerate the green transition and reduce fuel dependencies. The new Framework amends and prolongs in part the Temporary Crisis Framework, adopted on 23 March 2022 to enable member states to support the economy in the context of the current geopolitical crisis, already amended on 20 July 2022 and on 28 October 2022.Under the scheme, the aid will take the form of a reduction of the social security contribution that employers would otherwise have to pay for the period running from August 2023 until January 2024. The eligible beneficiaries will in principle be entitled to an aid amount equal to up to €700 per employee per month. The purpose of the scheme...Horoscopes Sept. 18, 2023: Jason Sudeikis, flaws can make a statement

Charlotte Beattie couldn’t say when she began to suspect that her boyfriend had committed the murder that sent his own son to death row. It probably crossed her mind almost 20 years ago, when an Oklahoma City police detective showed up to ask about Anthony Sanchez, who had been charged with killing a young woman found at a nearby lake. Jewell “Juli” Busken, a 21-year-old ballet student at the University of Oklahoma, was raped and murdered just before Christmas in 1996. The case remained cold until 2004, when Sanchez’s DNA was linked to the crime. But when the homicide detective showed Beattie a forensic artist’s sketch of the supposed killer, it didn’t look like Sanchez, she recalled. It looked more like his father, Glen.Like many who knew Sanchez, Beattie couldn’t believe he’d committed such a horrible crime. She’d never known him to be violent — not like Glen, who could be terrifying. One Valentine’s Day, she said, Glen put a gun to his head at his home in Norman, Oklahoma, only t...STAT WATCH: Colorado State’s penalty problems are not exclusive to their loss to Buffaloes

From Colorado State’s perspective, its school-record number of penalties was largely to blame for its devastating loss at Colorado. “I can’t even speak about it, it’s so ridiculous,” coach Jay Norvell said after the 43-35 loss in two overtimes. “And it’s a real shame because a lot of those penalties took away a lot of great effort from our kids.”Saturday night wasn’t a one-off for CSU. The Rams have gone 3-11 under Norvell, and undisciplined play has been a persistent problem.Of the 17 penalties the Rams committed against Colorado, 11 were 15-yarders — two on the same play when Henry Blackburn was flagged for pass interference and Ayden Hector was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after a late hit sent two-way star Travis Hunter to the hospital. There also were four blocks below the waist, two other unsportsmanlike conducts, a chop block, facemask and targeting.CSU’s top three single-game penalty totals have occurred over the past 10 games — 13 ag...Trial to start for officers charged in Elijah McClain's death

The City of Miami Fire Rescue responded to a house blaze that resulted in a dog’s death. At 5:41 a.m. Monday, firefighters arrived at a two-story residential duplex, located on the 3000 block of Southwest 18th Street, engulfed in smoke with flames emanating from the front door. Firefighters extended handlines into the building and contained the fire within minutes. Officials said the fire remained confined to its point of origin.
