SAN JOSE — Police said little Tuesday afternoon about the deaths a day earlier of two young children, who drowned at a home day care facility in San Jose’s Almaden neighborhood.Authorities did not offer any new public information about what they believe happened before the children were found Monday morning. At a Tuesday-afternoon news gathering, Officer Steve Aponte said that the two children were under the ages of 5 years, but did not release their identities.Investigators continued combing through evidence after the drownings, which took place at a home day care facility on the 1000 block of Fleetwood Drive in San Jose. Police said Monday that officers had assisted rescuers from San Jose Fire with a welfare check at 9:05 a.m.Two children were in a state of “severe medical distress” when they were found, Aponte said Tuesday. (AP) — The small plane crash that killed former NFL tight end Russ Francis and another man at an Adirondack Mountains airport occurred after the craft’s engine apparently lost power, a federal investigator said Tuesday.Francis, 70, and Richard McSpadden, 63, had just taken off from the Lake Placid Airport on Sunday afternoon in a single-engine Cessna 177 when the plane encountered trouble. (AP) — A North Dakota lawmaker who died in a plane crash along with his wife and two young sons had recently received his commercial pilot’s license with hopes of one day working for a major airline, a Senate colleague said.State Sen. Doug Larsen, his wife Amy and the two children died Sunday in a plane crash near Moab, Utah. The plane crashed shortly after taking off from Canyonlands Airfield near the desert recreation town, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
